Business License Online Application


City of Union City - New Rental License Application



The City of Union City would like to welcome you to its business community.  
We know that starting a new business can be exciting and challenging.  

We wish you the greatest success in your new venture!



What you need to know to get started:

1. Business licenses are renewed on an annual basis and expire on their corresponding anniversary date.

2. The business start date is the date your business started operating in the City of Union City. 

3. Identification numbers are required for all businesses. Sole proprietorships and partnerships are required to provide a Social Security Number (SSN) for owners.
Corporations, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships, and trusts are required to provide a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN).

4. No payment will be required until your application has been reviewed and "accepted". You will receive an email verifying the receipt of application.
And then, in 1 - 2 business days, you will be notified of the amount due and instructions on how to pay online.

5. Pursuant to Chapter 18.32, "Residential Districts", of the Union City Municipal Code, room, room and board, or boarding houses for not more than two (2) paying
guests are permitted uses in the R and RS districts.

6. Pursuant to Chapter 5.50, “Residential Landlord and Tenant Relations”, of the Union City Municipal Code, no landlord may terminate a residential tenancy without
demonstrating that the landlord possesses a valid business license and has registered the rental unit with the City.

Therefore, it is important that you list ALL residential units that you rent within Union City. For additional information regarding rental requirements in Union City,

16100.1(a)(2) of the Business and Professions Code. To do so, please Apply in person - you may not apply online.
